Capture, mark up, export
Oxid Capture Studio takes screenshots and records the screen through Apple's ScreenCaptureKit, then lets you mark up a screenshot or edit a recording without leaving the app.
Screenshots
Full screen, a single window, a region you drag out, or a scrolling capture stitched into one tall image. There is also a 5-second timed capture. Screenshots save as PNG or JPEG, and you can pin one on screen to keep it in view.
Recording
Record the full screen, a window, the active window, a region, or the webcam alone. Video is written as H.264 in an MP4 at 30, 60 or 120 fps, with system audio, the microphone, or both. You can show or hide the pointer.
Auto Save commits the recording to disk while it runs, every minute by default. If the app quits or the Mac loses power, the file still opens, minus whatever came after the last save. Nothing before the first save can be recovered.
Editing
The screenshot editor has arrows, lines, rectangles, ellipses, a pen, a highlighter, text, callouts, numbered steps, blur, magnify and crop. The video editor trims and splits clips and adds speed changes, zoom and pan, blurred regions, spotlights, typed subtitles and transitions.
Export
Presets for YouTube 1080p and 4K, social, tutorials and GIF, plus a custom export in H.264, HEVC, ProRes or VP9. A copy of FFmpeg (LGPL build) ships inside the app for VP9, so you do not need to install anything.
What it does not do
There is no cloud upload and no sharing link. Recordings and screenshots are saved on your Mac. Crash reporting is off unless you agree to it when the app first asks.
Capture and export need a licence. A 7-day free trial starts on first launch.

Frequently asked
Got questions?
Is it a subscription?
No. $39 once, for one Mac.
Can I try it first?
Yes. A 7-day trial starts on first launch. Capturing, recording and exporting need the trial or a licence; your library stays open either way.
What happens to a recording if the Mac crashes?
With Auto Save on, which is the default, the recording is committed to disk every minute, so the file still opens and you lose at most the last minute. You can choose 1, 5, 10 or 15 minutes, or switch it off. The first stretch of a recording, before the first save, cannot be recovered.
Do I need to install FFmpeg?
No. The built-in presets use macOS's own encoders, and an LGPL build of FFmpeg ships inside the app for VP9 export.
Does it upload anything?
Recordings and screenshots are not uploaded. The app checks your licence and looks for updates over the network. Crash reports are sent only if you agree when it first asks, and live streaming only goes to an RTMP server you set up yourself.
Which Macs does it run on?
Apple Silicon and Intel; it ships as a universal app. Capture needs macOS 14 Sonoma or later and the Screen Recording permission.
