Oxid VM
Linux, Windows and containers. One Mac app.
Run Linux, macOS and Windows 11 guests on Apple Silicon, with the Docker CLI and single-node Kubernetes already wired up — and disposable sandboxes your coding agent can run code in instead of your Mac.

Apple Silicon native
Feature 01
Linux, macOS and Windows, side by side
Pick a template and go: Ubuntu, Debian, Fedora, Arch, Alpine and NixOS, macOS on Apple Silicon hosts, and Windows 11 on ARM. Linux and macOS run on Apple Virtualization, the framework macOS already ships. Windows runs on a bundled, signed helper, because Apple's framework cannot run it at all.
Feature 02
Containers without a second product
The Docker CLI ships with the app and is configured against your guest the moment it boots. There is no separate runtime to install, license or keep running.
Feature 03
Kubernetes when you want it
Enable a single-node cluster and kubectl is configured for you, merged into your existing kubeconfig rather than replacing it.
Feature 04
A sandbox your agent can throw away
Connect Claude Code, Codex, Cursor or VS Code and your agent can clone one of your stopped VMs, run code inside the copy, and destroy it. No network unless it asks for one. Destroyed on a timer even if the agent crashes. It cannot reach your own VMs, your containers or your files.
Feature 05
Guests that feel local
Shared folders, a shared clipboard and drag-and-drop between host and guest, on Linux and macOS.

Signed tool updates
Bundled CLI tools update over their own verified channel.
Apple Virtualization first
Linux and macOS guests use the framework macOS already ships. Windows gets a bundled helper because Apple's framework cannot run it.
Real logs
A CLI that reads the log file directly, so it still works when the app will not launch.
System Requirements
macOS 14 Sonoma or later. Apple Silicon (M1 or newer). 8 GB RAM minimum, 16 GB recommended for Kubernetes. Windows guests need a Windows 11 Arm64 ISO you supply, and about 40 GB free.
Frequently asked
Got questions?
Does it run on Intel Macs?
No. Oxid VM targets Apple Silicon and the Apple Virtualization framework.
How does an AI agent use it?
Oxid VM speaks the Model Context Protocol. One command connects Claude Code, Codex, Cursor, VS Code, Windsurf or Zed, after which you can ask your agent to run something “somewhere disposable” and it will — in a cloned VM, not on your Mac. The app lists every sandbox that is running and lets you destroy any of them.
What can the agent actually reach?
Only sandboxes it created. The tools it is offered are an allowlist: it cannot start, stop or delete your VMs, touch Docker or Kubernetes, or read your licence. A sandbox has no network unless the agent asks for one, and every sandbox has a hard expiry that survives a crash.
Can I run macOS guests?
Yes, on Apple Silicon hosts, within Apple's licensing terms for macOS virtualization.
Can I run Windows?
Yes — Windows 11 on ARM, on Apple Silicon. You supply your own Arm64 ISO from Microsoft; we are not permitted to distribute one. Setup runs in a window and you click through it yourself, and the network and display drivers are installed afterwards. Those drivers are the open-source virtio-win package, which the app downloads the first time you create a Windows VM — so that one step needs an internet connection.
Is Windows activated and supported?
No. These VMs have no TPM, so Windows treats them as unsupported hardware: it installs and runs, but Microsoft does not guarantee updates for it, and feature updates to the next Windows release are refused. Bring your own licence key for activation.
Will Windows games or 3D apps work?
No. The Windows guest has a 2D display driver only — no DirectX, no GPU acceleration. Desktop apps, developer tools and business software are the target; games and CAD are not. Shared folders, the shared clipboard and drag-and-drop are Linux and macOS features today and do not carry over to Windows guests.
Do I still need Docker Desktop?
No. The Docker CLI is bundled and configured against your guest.
